A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, Zakir Hussain’s consistently brilliant and exciting performances have not only established him as a national treasure in his own country, India, but earned him worldwide fame. He performs with Niladri Kumar, a master sitarist hailed as one of the more serious young exponents of Indian Classical Music. The Washington Post calls Zakir Hussain’s music “intoxicating in its intensity,” with a “virtuosity that is barely to be believed.” A child prodigy, Zakir Hussain was performing live by the age of twelve. He made his American debut in 1970, embarking on an international career which includes no fewer than 150 concert dates a year.
