Mulayam is with us on N-deal: Lalu
Lalu's statement comes after a late night meeting between Pranab Mukherjee and Samajwadi Party strategist Amar Singh
 INDIA , 1-July-2008  8:5:22 AM
In a clear indication that a deal had been worked out between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party to ensure that the government doesn't fall if the Left withdraws support over the nuclear deal, UPA ally Lalu Yadav claimed on Tuesday that Mulayam is with him.

According to Lalu Yadav, a staunch ally of the Congress, both the deal and the government are secure.

''Mulayam is with us, we will save the government and the deal,'' said Lalu Yadav, Railway Minister.

Lalu's statement comes after a late night meeting between Pranab Mukherjee and Samajwadi Party strategist Amar Singh.

''The Left created the UPA and they are the ones who were running the government. And now they are destroying it, so let them. Samajwadi Party is not concerned about it. Let them snap their ties, then we will think about it,'' said Amar Singh, leader, Samajwadi Party.

On Wednesday the National Security Advisor will brief the Samajwadi Party on the nuclear deal. This is a day ahead of the Samajwadi Party's own deadline to clarify which way it will go. But Samajwadi leaders are still keeping their cards close their chest.

The SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday hinted at a probable alliance with the Congress.

''We have no enemies. We may have ideological differences but Samajwadi Party has no enemies,'' said Mulayam Singh Yadav, SP Chief.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has hit out at rumours that her Bahujan Samaj Party could join forces with the BJP. She blamed BJP leader L K Advani for sparking these rumours at his rally in Kanpur.

''It seems that the SP is now willing to back the Congress over the nuclear deal. This deal has led to nationwide protests. Besides, Muslims have also shown their resentment over the nuclear deal. It is, therefore, clear that the SP, the Congress and their allies have decided to join hands. This is political opportunism,'' said Mayawati, Chief Minister, UP.
