| Ahead of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's visit to Koraput on Thursday, Maoist went on a rampage in Narayanpatna, blowing up three mobile towers and pillaging a railway station.
They also looted computers, cycles and mid-day meals from Narayanpatna block office.
Chidambaram is slated to visit Orissa to review the police preparedness in taking on the Maoists who have cut off access to Narayanpatna block in Koraput district in the state. Chidambaram will visit Koraput as well as Kandhamal districts where over 2,000 people are housed in relief camps since the August 2008 riots following the death of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati.
The Orissa government on Tuesday airlifted food and other essential commodities for police and paramilitary forces, who are confined to Narayanpatna owing to a Maoist blockade since June 15. Orissa Home Secretary Aditya Padhi said a helicopter had made two sorties from Koraput to Narayanpatna carrying rice, dal, sugar, kerosene and dry food for the 100 CRPF and 60 OSAP personnel stationed at Narayanpatna along with local policemen.
