Public transport went off the roads in the city today following a call given by CPI-M backed trade union CITU to protest hike in prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas.
Buses, trams, minibuses and taxis did not ply in view of the 24-hour state-wide transport strike though Metro services were normal.
Train have been exempted from the purview of the strike, Eastern Railway sources said.
