Govt steps up efforts to solve J&K
As the crisis in Jammu and Kashmir steadily worsens, the government has stepped up its efforts to find a solution
 INDIA , 16-August-2008  0:9:20 AM
As the crisis in Jammu and Kashmir steadily worsens, the government has stepped up its efforts to find a solution.

There are now indications that the government is making some fresh moves to end the deadlock. And the Congress is also stepping up efforts to resolve the crisis.

Sources have told NDTV that the government is now looking at setting up a new group to facilitate a dialogue, which has so far failed to take off despite the setting up of an all-party panel by the prime minister.

The group could consist of eminent people who both sides could talk to. This comes after an all-party delegation visited Jammu and Srinagar last week and held talks with various groups including the Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti and political parties in Srinagar.

According to sources, the facilitator group could consist of eminent people who both sides could talk to.

The Congress is continuing to hold its high level meetings on the crisis. The party held another meeting last night to review the situation.

The meeting was chaired by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and was attended among others by Sonia Gandhi's political adviser Ahmed Patel, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and J&K Congress chief Saifuddin Soz.

On Friday, in his Independence Day address, the PM had warned against divisive politics and emphasised the need to urgently resolve the crisis.
