Jammu and Kashmir is on edge on Monday with protests by both sides of the Amarnath divide.

A precautionary curfew has been imposed in Srinagar on Monday where the Hurriyat-backed coordination committee will march to the United Nations Military Observers Group office to present a memorandum.

Bullets not to be used to disperse crowds

The separatists will march to a spot near the UN office then a small group will go inside.

The government has requested the Hurrriyat to keep the crowds small, worried that a large group could lead to fresh clashes with security forces.

The government has given instructions to use maximum restraint and minimum use of force.

Sources say the instructions are not to use bullets to disperse crowds.

According to Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, "The memorandum seeks a UN intervention for the permanent resolution of Kashmir issue in the wake of the economic blockade imposed on the Valley."

National conference chief Omar Abdullah has threatened to quit if the unbridled use of force continued against protesters in Kashmir while the group leading the protests in Jammu is threatening to march to Baltal where the land transfer took place.

Jail bharo agitation in Jammu

Meanwhile, in Jammu, the Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti has intensified their agitation for the Amarnath shrine land with a Jail Bharo protest.

The protest will carry on for three days, the Samiti is claiming that thousands will court arrest on Monday.

The Amarnath yatra concluded on August 16. The BJP has also announced a similar all India jail bharo andolan on the 21st of this month
