Visually disabled student's CBSE...
That meant there was no time for any last-minute revision in a turn of events he was not entirely happy with.
 INDIA , 10-March-2008  2:9:14 AM
Arun had never been an early riser and on the morning of his first Board exam, he was an hour behind schedule.

That meant there was no time for any last-minute revision in a turn of events he was not entirely happy with.

''I slept at midnight but I woke up in the middle of the night with a start. I didn't study. I just heard some music and went back to sleep,'' said Arun Chabbra, class 12 student, Upras Vidyalaya.

Even though Arun was worried about making it to the exam centre on time, he refused to cut corners on his appearance. He was finally ready to put his best foot forward.

''I'm aiming for 70 per cent but I'll be fine even with 50 per cent considering how little I have prepared,'' he said.

But before he headed out, there was one more must-do. After all, Arun wont be done with his exam till after lunch.

''Normally the exam is from 10:30 to 1:30 pm, but for visually challenged students, we get one hour extra. It is a four hour paper which finishes at 2:30 pm,'' said Arun.

Accompanying him to his exam was his teacher and his official writer, the person who was to put down Arun's answers on paper.

''They don't get nervous. It's people like us who see everything around us that get unsettled. These kids are very determined and gritty and once something gets in their mind, it stays there,'' said Neeta Chakrabarty, Music Teacher, Upras Vidyalaya.

Four and a half hours later emerged a smiling Arun.

'' The paper was fine. I'll get 50 per cent. At the first instance, I did think the questions were a little tough,'' said Arun.

Although this was his first time working with Swati Sharma, his writer, there were no complaints from his side.

''The writer was ok. Her speed was fine and so was her pronunciation. Also, in my class ten exams, I had a writer from the science stream and having someone from the same stream makes a difference as they have a better understanding of the subject,'' said Arun.
